# Email notifications

> Which emails guito sends, which group each one belongs to, and how to stop the ones you don't want.

Outside guito, notifications arrive by email only: guito doesn't send notifications to your phone. Inside guito, the notifications bell shows notices about your accounts while you use it. Every email belongs to one of three groups, and you choose what you receive in **Settings**, on the **General** tab, under **Email notifications** (click your avatar in the sidebar). In the mobile app, the path is **Profile -> Settings -> Notifications**.

## Alerts

Notices about your own data. They're on by default and each one has its own switch.

| Alert | When it arrives |
| - | - |
| **Expiring bank connections** | In the last week before a bank's authorization expires and, if you let it expire, about 3 and 14 days after. |
| **Manual accounts to update** | When a manual account's balance hasn't been updated for 60 days. |
| **Manual investment values** | When a manual investment's value hasn't been updated for 90 days. |
| **Missed payments** | When an expected recurring payment doesn't show up. |

**Missed payments** reminders have no general switch: you turn them on for each recurring payment, in **Recurring**, with the **Missed-payment reminders** option, and they're off by default. See [Recurring movements](/en/features/recurring).

Turning an alert off only stops the email. The information is still visible in guito: for example, a connection about to expire still shows up in **Connections**.

## News and offers

Promotional emails from guito. They go to people who have a guito account and haven't refused them, and you can stop receiving them at any time.

| Email | What it is |
| - | - |
| **Newsletter** | Product news, a few times a year. |
| **First-week tips** | Two emails in your first days to help you get more out of guito. |
| **Offers and surveys** | Occasional offers and requests for feedback, for example after you try the Plus plan. |

When you create an account, on the website or in the app, you can tick **I don't want news and offers from guito by email**. The account then starts with all three turned off. It applies to every way of creating an account: email and password, Google, or Apple, including the Google and Apple buttons on the sign-in page.

## Always sent

Invoices and payments, security codes and new sign-in notices, and emails about your account, such as a data export or account deletion. These emails can't be turned off, because they're how guito tells you about your subscription and your account's security.

  <Tab title="From the email">
    At the bottom of every optional email there are two links:

    * **Stop this type of email** opens a page that asks you to confirm. Once you click **Stop these emails**, you stop receiving that type of email. You don't need to be signed in.
    * **Manage email notifications** opens your settings in guito, to choose in more detail.

    If your email service shows an unsubscribe button next to the sender (as Gmail does), that button does the same as the first link.
  </Tab>
</Tabs>

<Note>
  In a missed-payment email, **Stop this type of email** turns off reminders for that one recurring payment only. Reminders for the others stay as they are.

## FAQ

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Can I get notifications on my phone?">
    No. guito doesn't send notifications to your phone: outside guito it reaches you by email only, whether you use the website or the mobile app. Inside the app, notices wait in the notifications bell.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="I turned off the newsletter and still get other emails. Why?">
    Each type of email has its own switch. Turning off the newsletter doesn't turn off first-week tips, offers and surveys, or alerts. To stop those, turn off their switches too. Emails in the **Always sent** group keep arriving.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="I asked to delete my account. Will I keep getting emails?">
    While the deletion request is pending, guito sends no alerts and no news and offers. Emails in the **Always sent** group, such as the ones about the deletion request itself, keep arriving.
