# Delisting, takeover or conversion

> What happens to a position when the company is delisted, bought out for cash, or when the fund is converted into another, and how to record the outcome.

Sometimes an investment stops existing as you bought it: the company is delisted and its shares are canceled, another company buys it and pays an amount per share, or a fund is converted into another (for example, an old share class merged into a new one). From that day there is no quote any more, and the position is worth what the event gave it.

When guito confirms one of these events on an investment you hold, the position's page explains it, and you can record the outcome in your portfolio with one click. Open **Investments** (`/investments`) and click the position. In the mobile app, the same note appears at the top of the position, with the same options.

## What the position shows

At the top of the position's page, a note says what happened and since when:

| Event | What the note says | How the position is valued from then on |
| - | - | - |
| Shares canceled | The company was delisted on a date and its shares were canceled. | At €0. |
| Acquired for cash | The price paid per share and the payment date. | At the deal price, converted to euros. |
| Conversion | The new holding and the ratio, for example *BPI SMART Dinâmico PPR/OICVM – Categoria R* at 1 : 1.82852. | At the new holding's quote, multiplied by the ratio. |
| Renamed | The new holding, with the units carried over one for one. | At the new holding's quote. |

When a fund is converted into a new share class, the new holding shows the class's full name (for example, "– Categoria R"), so you can tell it apart from the old class.

Below it, the note links the event's public sources (at most three, one per site), so you can check what happened.

If the event has not taken effect yet, the note gives the date it will happen, and until then the position is valued as usual. Your history before the event date does not change: the chart and past values stay as they were.

## Record the outcome

Recording the outcome adds to your portfolio the trades the event made for you. The value you see does not change. Only where it is recorded changes.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the position">
    In **Investments**, click the position with the note.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Click Record the outcome">
    The date defaults to the event date. You can choose a later day, up to today.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm">
    Click **Record**. The note then says on which day the outcome was recorded.
  </Step>
</Steps>

What gets recorded depends on the event:

* **Shares canceled:** a sale of all units at €0. What you paid becomes a realized loss.
* **Acquired for cash:** a sale of all units at the deal price. You can record it from the day the cash was paid.
* **Conversion or rename:** a sale of the old units at what you paid, and a purchase of the new holding for exactly the same amount. The realized gain or loss is €0, with no cents of difference: what you paid moves whole to the new holding, which appears in your portfolio with an **Open** link in the note.

If you hold the investment in more than one portfolio, the outcome is recorded in each of them.

<Note>
  If the portfolio has trades synced from a broker, the broker records the outcome on a later sync, and the button does not appear in that portfolio. The note says how long to wait: once 30 days have passed since the payment date (or the event date), if the broker still hasn't done it, the button comes back so you can record it here. In that case, the record covers every unit in that portfolio.

## FAQ

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Do I have to record the outcome?">
    No. Before and after recording, the position is worth the same. Recording makes your portfolio show what happened: the old position is closed and, for a conversion, the new one appears with the units you received.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Why can't I record a cash takeover?">
    The cash has not been paid yet. The note gives the payment date; the button appears from that day.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="It says I have trades after the chosen date">
    The outcome has to come after the last purchase or sale you recorded in this investment. Choose that date or a later one.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="I recorded it by mistake. How do I undo it?">
    Open the position's **Transactions** section and delete the trades added on the event date. For a conversion, also delete the purchase on the new holding's page.
