Import the statement
1
Open the account
Under Accounts in the sidebar, click the account that will receive the movements.
2
Choose Import statement
It sits in the ⋯ menu at the top of the account page.
3
Pick the file
CSV or TSV, up to 10 MB and 10,000 rows. You don’t have to tidy the columns: guito reads each bank’s format the way the bank exports it.
4
Answer the balance question, if you get one
On credit cards guito always asks. On other accounts you only have to type this number when the file carries no balance column, because then there is nowhere to read it from. That number is what lets guito rebuild the balance for every day in the imported period.
5
Review and confirm
The list shows everything about to come in. You can untick rows and fix descriptions before confirming.
Movements you already have in the account are detected as duplicates and left unticked. Confirm without touching them and they won’t come in twice.
Credit-card statements
A card statement is written from the bank’s side: purchases carry a positive sign, because that is what the bank charged you, and paying the bill carries a negative one. In guito it is the other way round, because the account is yours: a purchase is money going out, and paying the bill is debt going down. guito recognizes these statements and turns the signs for you. Reviewing a card, you always see the option The movements in this file are inverted, switched on when guito spotted the inversion, and the amounts in the list are the ones that will be stored: purchases negative, payments positive. If your file already came that way, switch the option off.How much you owe on the card
On a card, guito always asks how much you owe, not what the balance is. That is the total still to be paid to the bank, on the date of the last movement in the file. The number that stands out on the statement is usually a different one: the available credit, meaning how much you can still spend up to the card’s limit. On a card with a €5,000 limit and €4,908.56 available, the debt is €91.44. Enter the available credit and you end up with a debt you don’t have.Related pages
