guito keeps only the trades it finds in each email, never the email itself. The address gives no access to your mailbox or to your broker.
Forward your emails
Start by clicking Create address. The page shows the guito address (click it to copy it) and the steps for your email service, with tabs for Gmail, Outlook, iCloud and Other. Each step has a How? with the instructions.1
Gmail confirmation (Gmail only)
For Gmail to forward on its own, add the guito address in Settings > Forwarding and POP/IMAP > Add a forwarding address (Gmail only forwards to confirmed addresses). Gmail’s confirmation request shows up on the page with a Confirm in Gmail button: open it, confirm, then choose I’ve confirmed. If you forward by hand, you can skip this step.
2
Forward your buy and sell emails
Forward to the guito address the emails in which your broker confirms each buy and sell, by hand or automatically: any email that arrives counts. The step turns green when the first one arrives.
Forward without doing it by hand
So you don’t have to forward every email, create a filter (or rule) in your email that catches only your broker’s buy and sell emails, by sender and by a word they have in the subject (for example, “executed”), and forwards them to the guito address. That way your broker’s other emails don’t use up the daily limit.- Gmail: once the address is confirmed in step 1, create a filter with the sender in From and the word in Subject, then choose Forward it to and the guito address. Don’t turn on forwarding for all your mail: the filter is enough.
- Outlook: create a rule with the sender and the subject word as the condition and the Forward to action with the guito address.
- iCloud Mail: open Settings > Rules > Add a rule, pick your broker’s sender and Forward to the guito address.
What happens to each email
Every email received appears under Emails received, with its status and the trades found. You can search by subject, sender or instrument, and filter by status and period. Open an email to see, trade by trade, whether it was recorded and why.Recorded or Already there
Recorded or Already there
Recorded trades go into Investments and, in the instrument’s history, show an email icon that links to the original email. If you’d already recorded the same trade by hand, the email doesn’t duplicate it and it shows as Already there.
Needs review
Needs review
When the instrument can’t be identified with confidence, use Choose instrument to pick the right one and the trade is recorded with the email’s details. If details are missing (no date, quantity, price or currency), the trade isn’t guessed. You can also choose Ignore to leave it out, or Read again to have the email read once more.
Brokers already connected
Brokers already connected
Emails from a broker you’ve already connected to guito (Trading 212 or Interactive Brokers) aren’t recorded, because those trades already arrive through the sync.
No trades
No trades
Emails that don’t confirm an executed buy or sell (an order placed but not filled, or a newsletter, for example) show as No trades and leave your investments unchanged.
Generate a new address
If you shared the address by mistake or start receiving emails you didn’t send, choose Generate new address in the ⋯ menu at the top of the page. You can Keep the old one for 14 days, so emails keep being read while you switch to the new one, or Turn the old one off now if someone else knows the address. Then, in Gmail, add and confirm the new address, and point your filter or rule at it; if you forward by hand, use the new one. If an email reaches the old address during those 14 days, the page tells you emails are still reaching the old address.Limitations
- Available on the Plus plan only. Emails that arrive without an active subscription aren’t read.
- Up to 50 emails a day are read. If you receive more than that without having sent them, generate a new address.
- Buys and sells of shares, ETFs and other listed instruments are recorded. Dividends, deposits and standalone fees aren’t imported by email.
